For a current project on innovative teaching under the direction of Prof. Dr. Sandra Bärnreuther (University of Lucerne), Dr. Benjamin Hofmann (Eawag, Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology), and Prof. Dr. Clara Zemp (University of Neuchâtel), we are looking for a Project assistant, 15% for the Swiss Young Academy.
Tasks
In this exciting position you will support the project group “Innovative teaching formats at the science-society interface” of the Swiss Young Academy. This position includes the following tasks in particular:
- Desk research and liaising with universities and universities of applied sciences for a stock-take of innovative teaching formats at Higher Education Institutions in Switzerland
- Literature search for development of a typology of innovative teaching formats (i.e., courses in which students produce videos, podcasts, and other outputs that engage with society)
- Organization and preparation of two workshops for networking and capacity-building of lecturers and students involved in innovative teaching
- Preparation of outreach materials on project results (report, website material, etc.)
- And general support of the project group in organizational and administrative matters
Competencies
- Master’s degree or advanced Master’s student from any discipline
- Excellent English language skills, very good German and French language skills are an asset
- Experience in workshop organization and/or project management
- Interest in innovative teaching and science-society relations, prior knowledge being an asset
- Good conceptual, organizational, and social skills
- Openness, reliability, structured way of working, and clear expression
- Own computer with internet access (BYOD)
Conditions of employment
- Starting date: from March 15 or by arrangement
- Duration: 8 months with a total of 200 work hours
- Hourly wage employment (ca. 6 hours per week) with flexible working hours and option to work from home
- Small interdisciplinary project team
- Room for shaping the project with your ideas

Tasks
In this exciting position, you will support the project group “Swiss Young Network for Science Policy and Diplomacy (SYNESPOD)” of the Swiss Young Academy. This position includes the following tasks in particular:
- Desk research on various educational offers at the science-policy interface
- Collaboration with the project partners to map the educational offers
- Managing a shared database with the partners during the project
- Preparation of outreach materials on project results (report, website material, etc.)
- General support of the project group in organizational and administrative matters
Competencies
- Master’s degree or advanced Master’s student from any discipline

- Interest in science for policy and diplomacy, prior knowledge being an asset

♦ Project assistant, 10% for the SYA Project “Unveiling the leaky Pipeline in STEM (UPSTEM)”

For the joint project “UPSTEM” whose focus is in the area of gender equality in academia, under the direction of Dr. Julia Venturini (University of Geneva), Prof. Dr. Pamela Delgado (HES-SO), Marco Cavallaro (USI), Dr. Robbie I’Anson Price (Bees in Rain Science Film Studio), we are looking for a project assistant, 10%.
Tasks
In this exciting position you will support the project group “Unveiling the leaky pipeline in STEM (UPSTEM)” of the Swiss Young Academy. The project aims at understanding the reasons behind the leaky pipeline in Switzerland’s STEM fields from surveying its own protagonists: the female researchers that left academia. This position includes the following tasks in particular:
- Compilation and maintenance of a list of potential survey candidates
- Design and circulation of a survey addressed to women who have left academia
- Collection and analysis of survey responses
- Support with the processing of the results and the organisation of a 1-day workshop
Competencies
- MA or PhD student, preferably in social sciences, with experience in the preparation, circulation and analysis of surveys
- Knowledge in gender studies is of added value
- First hand experience in event organization is an advantage
- High level of spoken and written English, basic knowledge of German or French is a plus
- Existing background knowledge of the Swiss higher education landscape (not necessarily specialist knowledge)
- Good conceptual skills and organizational skills
- Clear expression, structured and precise way of working
- Trustworthiness, reliability and collegiality in collaboration
- Own computer with internet access (BYOD)
Conditions of employment
- Starting date: April 1st, 2024 or by agreement
- Duration: 9 months with a total of ca. 162 hours
- Hourly wage employment (ca. 18 hours per month) with flexible working hours and option to work from home
- Bi-weekly online meetings, with occasional in-person meetings in Bern, Zurich or Geneva, depending on where you live.
